Big Heavy World is currently seeking a Museum Docent intern. This position is centered on our Tiny Museum of Vermont Music History and official special music library collections. This internship will allow interns to practice and improve their skills in research, writing, and organization.

Interns will be involved in projects such as:

  • Creating a Collections Management Policy (or “CMP”), drawing from effective policies in place at similar museums and special libraries

  • Researching the history and significance of museum artifacts, and transforming that information into accessible descriptions and labels

  • Engaging music lovers and museum guests through tours, promotion, and events

Over the course of your internship, you can expect to gain vast knowledge of historically significant people, places, and events in Vermont music, and learn how to present research and knowledge in exciting and attractive ways.

All internship positions are unpaid, supervised positions for college credit. Applicants not seeking college credit or who are not accepted into the intern program are encouraged to apply as a volunteer. Interns and volunteers are expected to engage with projects both as part of a team and independently; to show commitment to the BHW ethos by attending crew meetings and pledging to uphold our substance-free policy on the BHW premises; to demonstrate professionalism when representing BHW; and to maintain regular and respectful communication with all collaborators both inside and outside of the BHW team.
