Big Heavy World is currently seeking high-school interns to help create a standard operating manual for a teen-centered, teen-run music venue. This position will allow interns to practice and improve their skills in organization, advocacy, and community involvement. Interns will be involved in projects such as:

  • Interviewing members of the music scene to hear their experiences and ideas

  • Researching how to create a DIY venue that is safe and respectful but also exhilarating and open for creative freedom

  • Deciding on and documenting best practices that will have lasting impact to put into motion at a real venue

Over the course of your internship, you can expect to become immersed in the local music scene, learn the “behind the scenes” of a DIY community, and create a meaningful impact for Vermont music!

This internship is a paid, supervised position and may be used for high school credit. Applicants who are not accepted into the intern program are encouraged to apply as a volunteer. Interns and volunteers are expected to engage with projects both as part of a team and independently; to show commitment to the BHW ethos by attending crew meetings and pledging to uphold our substance-free policy on the BHW premises; to demonstrate professionalism when representing BHW; and to maintain regular and respectful communication with all collaborators both inside and outside of the BHW team.
